MT Aegean Nobility (IMO No. 9345441) Refugees Recovery

 

 

Statement at Sea

The Greek tanker Aegean Nobility (IMO#9345441) during her voyage from Zawia, Lybia to Trieste, Italy in loaded condition, on January 12th 2014 at 21:18 hrs lt ordered from MRCC Rome acting on behalf of Libyan Maritime Authorities to proceed to the approximate position 33 53N / 013 29E participating in a Search and Rescue Operation. According to the initial information by MRCC, there was a rubber boat with about 100 persons onboard requiring immediate assistance. Vessel proceeded at full speed to their assistance.

During the Search and Rescue operation and while at position 33 46.9N / 013 28.7E on 12 January 2014 at 21:54 hrs lt , was located a rubber boat, gray colour with 117 persons onboard. Vessel stopped and picked up all refugees numbering 117 including two pregnant women (nationalities Somalia and Eritrea).

 

On 13 January 2014 at 00:48 hrs lt, the rescue operation was completed and the Master instructed by MRCC Rome to proceed at Pozzallo, Italy in order to disembark the refugees. At the same time the JRCC of the Hellenic Coast Guard was informed about the event and the successful rescue of the refugees.

 

On 13 January 2014 at 17:30 hours the vessel arrived at Pozzallo roads and with the assistance of local Port Authorities and Doctors, the refugees disembarked the Aegean Nobility and transferred to the tug boat “Nos Taurus”. On the completion of various formalities by Italian authorities, at 19:30 hours of same day, Aegean Nobility departed to her destination Trieste having disembarked safely all refugees.
